The home renovation is still coming along. The second ice storm really slowed us down on a few projects. We were supposed to get new carpet installed on the third floor last week, but they had to reschedule for the 25th of February. That is our last big project and I cannot wait until it's complete!
I realize I never showed the changes to our living room. We recently converted our third floor loft into a bedroom. AND we changed the paint color! It's a project we had been planning to do for years. But we realized it was such a messy one. Finally, we had the nerve to do it.
My view from the loft. It felt so good to finally knock out these rails!!
I knocked them out with a hammer one by one.
Finally all that was left was the railing. Hubs got to cut it out with his saw. I watched from below in the living room.
You can see that he also built a wall on the other side of the loft area, making this into a bedroom.
He started with framing out the wall. This takes lots of time and patience that I simply don't have. I'm so thankful Hubs does.
We had to cover everything with plastic. This project was so messy. Basically, we had to live in our bedroom for three weeks.
Once the wall was completely framed, Hubs added drywall to the interior of the bedroom.
He took advantage of the open wall in the living room to run electrical wiring for outlets.
At this point, we decided to bring in a crew of drywall finishers to come tape, mud, and sand the drywall. Those guys are so much faster then we ever could be. Also, take note of how high that is. A regular ladder wont even reach half way up that wall. They were working on STILTS.
Once the wall was complete, we decided to take advantage of the situation and go ahead and get rid of the green walls. We opted for a more neutral tan. I didn't realize what a big difference the paint color was going to make.
I seriously can't even tell there used to be a loft over the couch. It looks like it was meant to be this way. Hubs and the drywall guys did such a good job. Yes, we still have to hang up our curtains again. But honestly, I can't stop staring at my new windows!
It definitely feels different with the color change. But, I'm really liking it.
Here is a progression of the living room.

This has been a massive undertaking, but I'm pleased with the outcome. Soon, I'll show you the new bedroom! We are getting so close to being done with the full renovation.
What are you working on lately? Any plans to start your own DIY project? I'd love to hear about it. Have a great week. Talk soon, Friends!
